I'm inviting people to suggest profiles (including pts cost) and even the fluff (ie. background / story) for the miniatures. They can either be special character profiles or unit profiles (probably rare or maybe special units). I don't plan to purchase any more of these particular models so they will be stand alone and must not form part of a multi-model unit of the same type (although they could join other units).

You suggest the profiles for any or all of the models and I will include them and credit you in the army book pdf and the army blog (and link to your site if you have a Warhammer related blog or web page).

Please take into account the composition of the current army book, I will not be including a unit that unbalances the army or is ridiculously powerful.

Please enter the profiles in the Nautican profiles page in Battle Reporter forum.

Dimensions and Basics
---------------------------
Komodons are 28mm scale miniatures that fit on 25 mm bases.
They come in 2 blister packs:-

1) Five models in the "troopers" rank and file pack and
2) Four models in the command group miniatures pack*

* the command group includes a Champion, Standard Bearer, Musician and Shaman. The command group miniatures can also be purchased separately as individual minis.

Height 4cm (including GW 25mm base - up to top of head) - the same height as Swordmasters but a lot stockier to look at (similar to Lizardmen)

Width and Length - (variable) the Champion, which is slightly wider and longer than the other minis is about 4.3cm wide and 4.5cm long (due to the trident and shield)

Base Size 25mm x 25mm

You can buy Komodons from various places (including eBay), I can recommend Armorcast.com.

Assembly
------------
Overall: these are not the easiest models to assemble. Most of the Trooper miniatures and the standard bearer are ok but the Champion was a nightmare and the musician and shaman look like they might be a bit tricky (although I haven't tried them yet).

The Champion (which is the most impressive of all the Komodon models and one of my all time favourite miniatures) is very difficult to assemble (although I confess I'm not very good with adhesives). I found the foot didn't quite touch the base properly (although you can vary the angle up/down which might have made a difference) so I had to add a strip of plastic (which will be painted as a plank of drift wood) beneath it. Also the Trident bearing arm did not seem to fit snugly into the shoulder socket although it might have been my fault as I had to re-position after I had applied epoxy resin and it had begun to dry. I have more champion models to assemble so, if I find the next one is easier to assemble, I'll return here and amend this post.

All of the models come in multiple parts. The standard bearer and some of the troopers are the simplest because only the weapon bearing arm has to be a joined to the body. Superglue was not sufficient to stick the metal (because the joints aren't very flush). I had to use epoxy resin and I had to stick together one piece at a time and wait for it to set; which is a pain for the Champion because he has a separate foot, shield bearing arm, weapon bearing arm and shield.

Most of the models have been designed so that you can position the weapon arm at different angles and so change the unit to make it look like it's either in combat or marching which is handy.

The miniature detail is excellent (from small fins on forearms, to daggers, trinkets on the body and legs, armbands and rope on the trident shaft while the tridents themselves look superb and the metal tipped ones are held in place by a crab shell and pincers).

Most of the miniature poses look good and the spiny dorsal fins really set these apart from Lizardmen which is nice because I was worried that they would end up looking too similar. The tail fins are perfect !

Summary
--------------
These models are of an excellent quality in both molding and design (better than many GW minis) and they have a really good weighty and solid feel to them. Some of them can be frustrating to assemble but I think it will be worth it in the end. They look like great painting projects.Sigmarhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11642441201859816835noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14627756101109563.post-34772933097132758422012-01-13T13:44:00.000-08:002012-01-13T13:51:30.545-08:00Hammer-heading Warhammer enemies !
New Nautican Miniatures swimming to a shore near me soon !
I decided to get the beach ball rolling again with my Nautican army. It's been a while (a long while) which has included several new official WFB Army book releases for 8th edition so I'm freshening up my Nauticans too (both the minis and the rules).

I really needed something to get the excitement and impetus going again and this new plan seems to be doing the trick. So, the next draft will constitute quite a major update.

Here are some of the new minis I've ordered (from Reapermini.com)

Sea Creature of Blood Reef
(painted by Michael Proctor)

A Hammerhead Wereshark !
(you can find him (or her) on Reapermini.com and it's named Shred Bloodgill)

and two Sea Elves "Ollamiel" (to represent the Nautican Lords and Heroes)
(Painted by Alison Scheirman)

I've also ordered some more Komodons (which will form both the Wavebreakers, Trident Guard and the Interceptors because they are simply the best minis I can find for the job). As a result the Wavebreaker base sizes are being increased to 25mm from 20mm (which will mean a pts cost tweak).

I found some new pics of the Komodons which show off the miniatures a bit better than the painted mini pics do...

The standard troopers (available from Artemisblacks.com or Armorcast.com)

and the Trident Guard Champion

I have even decided how to differentiate between the Wavebreakers and Trident Guard now that I will be using the same miniatures. The Trident Guard have the tridents with the metallic looking prongs (which I call Oceanic Tridents) and the Wavebreakers will have the tridents with the sea shell looking prongs (which I have named Sea Tridents).
I'll write about the rule change ideas in another post. There are some concept changes too, so the army makes a little bit more sense.

Keep the faith, we'll get this army up and running eventually !
It might just be the colours though, he does after all have a sucker tentacle-like mouth. Hmmm....

Anyway, it's been a long time so I thought I'd better give any poor soul still following this blog an update....

1) I have some new miniatures to show you which I will post pics of sometime this week.

2) I think I've grown big enough balls to start painting and ruining my miniatures.

3) Battle play-testing, read on....

There have been a few battles over the past 6 months and the Nauticans are frankly getting a right royal kicking. The draft 5.0 army just about managed to work out how to handle the Skaven and then along came Warriors of Chaos and once again the Nauticans are getting a real pasting. Since draft 5 was released it looks like I've had 8 battles with no wins (although I think I might have missed 1 win off the list, I'm sure I've won once since draft 5.0 ?!)

Now, these demoralizing losses might all be down to my incredibly bad general-ship but I'm hoping not. If the losses are down to me being p'ss poor with my troops then I'm going to steal what remains in the fish tank war chest and go and live somewhere very inland where the fishy-men will never find me :)

Anyway, I though I'd better have a think about what's going wrong. Here's my analysis...

In both recent games against WoC I felt that the Nauticans were well and truly out-gunned in close combat. One battle was a massacre, the other a major defeat that was about to become a massacre and a fine fish barbecue at the Chaos shrine :(

A lot of the problem, I guess, comes down to fighting an obviously very broken Warriors of Chaos army :) Only kidding ! So, assuming that I'm an ok general (a big assumption !), the WoC army is not broken (a reasonable assumption), then there is something amiss with the Nauticans.

So where do we start ? Well, looking at my enemy's 2,000pt army in this afternoon's battle...

There were a lot of frenzied Khorne Warriors with 2 hand weapons in 2 ranks [supporting attacks] (ie 40 attacks in total) which are not easy to tame ! On top of the Khorne warriors we had two units of Tzeentch Warriors with hand weapon and shield to "hold the line" (or rather kick my ass !) with a 5+ ward save, on top of the toughness of 4 and armour save of 3+.

The weakest troops were Chaos Marauders and, frankly, at 4pts per model (or a bit more with shields) they were only there to make up the numbers, tie up my units and smile for the photographs :(

Now, looking at my army...

In reply I had fairly solid selection of fighty-units including 2 units of trident guard (with the bullshark banner [frenzy] and the venomous spine banner [poisonous attacks]), 2 units of 2 Weresharks and a large 38 model horde unit of Wavebreakers (incl. General, BSB and Siren) with scalemail [-1 to hit], shields and spears.

I had some crabs (I understand they're not usually easy to get rid, although the Warriors didn't seem to find it too difficult) and some coral hunters (i.e. 18" spearguns)

The above collection of Nauticans represents quite an offensive combat oriented force and I was hoping I would be able to stand toe-to-toe with the Warrior of Chaos core units providing I managed to get those all important Wereshark flank attacks in.

Well... I got the all important flank attacks in, I tied up a Warriors of Chaos and Marauder unit with Sandgangers will a bit of help from the two Giant Crabs and... I got well and truly trounced by the rest of the chaos army ! The primary offending (never again to be invited to the under-ocean party) units consisted of 40 Chaos Warriors [20 Khorne and 20 Tzeentch] including a Sorcerer who didn't do much but scare me a lot and a unit of 30+ Marauders and 5 Marauder Horsemen (who I actually managed to dispatch to their gods - who can't have been pleased !).

It's all very depressing, the Warriors of Chaos took a very "Vanilla" (ie plain and common-sense army), I took a very "Vanilla" Nautican army and it was quite clear early on that the Nauticans were soon going to be served skewered with Khorne sauce !

Anyway, I don't want to finish this on a negative point. After all, I'm the only person I know of in the whole world who's collecting a Nautican army so, providing I can get someone to play against me, I can do what I want with them.

So, here we go...

I had a chat with my good buddy "J" who tests and regularly (actually almost always !) beats me.

Here are the initial thoughts and conclusions:-

1) Cresters are currently useless so need an upgrade
2) Coral hunters should have a scout option upgrade
3) Interceptors should be tweaked and brought into core units

We thought the above were reasonable to bridge the gap between Nauticans with a really hard "fighty" army to at least give them a couple more options.

Also, I am going to remove 4 or 5 characters from the list, the ones that just don't fit well anyone, eg. Coastal Hermit, Zheala. I will also remove quite a few special rules (because everyone keeps moaning about them) and add another Lord level special character - called "Kill All Atom Bomb" (only kidding!) There will be some more characters though.

Anyway, that's it for now. Thanks for following the blog,
I ordered the Slithe Queen, some Slithe Queent, some Slithe Raiders (to see if they fit the bill for Sprats ie. Coral Hunters / Crest Riders) and some sea creature familiars (all from reapermini.com).

I'm thinking of creating some new kind of Sea Creature swarm unit and I also like the idea of possibly using some of the sea creature familiars as icons on the top of standards - I'll have to see how large they are I guess (I wish they would advertise miniatures next to a ruler so you can see exactly how big they are).

The Slithe Queen will be a new hero or possibly Lord unit. I have some other characters I'd like to remove so there should be space in the army - the Coastal Hermit will definitely be "shipped away" :)

Anyway, here are the minis that will soon be swimming their way across the Atlantic:-
(I absolutely love the model so it's going to find a place somewhere, somehow !)
And here's Draconian's profile suggestion, which looks fairly good (although I need to check out the points cost and think about the miniature in relation to other units in the army):-

"These creatures are a mystery to the surfacedewellers. Some say that the Dragon species evolved from these creatures, others say that these creatures evolved from Dragons which started to live underwater, others say that this is not even related to a Dragon, the truth is only known to the mysterious people of the deeps. But what is known is that their crests not only work as protection, but also contain gills which allow them to breath underwater. The Nauticans teach them how to use Weapons and give them light armor, but even unarmed, they are deadly, since their claws can tear through metal and they breath hot steam, just like Dragons breath fire.

Sea Creature; Large Target; Terror; 4+ Scaly Skin; Creature of the Deep; Hot Steam (works as Dragon Fire, except it effects Flammable Units the same way it effects ordinary Units)

I think it would be about 400pts & it is quite obvious it would be a Rare Unit"
To spice things up a bit I'm certainly going to add some new miniatures to the Bouillabaisse :D

Also, I'll incorporate the new 8th edition special rules. Interceptors for example will just receive the new Devastating Charge rather than their existing special rule.

Anyway, this is the new miniature that Riceeman (a valued Battle Reporter forum member) found in the new releases on Reapermini.com.

He's just about perfect for my fishy ladz so I'll be ordering one or maybe many (he's fairly cheap so could end up as a small unit - my mind is still awash with it's potential).

If you have any ideas if this should be a character or unit and what it's abilities or even name should be then please let me know. I've incorporated quite a few reader suggestions (actually lots of them !) so far.
Why have Games Workshop included a Sea Creatures rule in the latest rulebook ?
I have to confess, I haven't read all of the rules yet - I only got the book today, give me a chance ! :) But I notice on page 75 there is a new "Sea Creature" rule.

Hmmm... apparently, sea creatures cannot march move but can move across water terrain (excluding marshes) as though it is open ground even if it's impassable to other units.

Interesting...

I wonder why GW included this rule, I don't believe there are any sea creatures in the Warhammer World except for my Nauticans are there ?

I'll have a think about whether I should adopt this rule for some of my units.

Note: The Nautican army list is getting a thorough review and an article in the next edition of The Doom Seeker Warhammer fanzine. I'll be discussing how the 8th edition rules affect the army and any planned changes to the army list* for the draft 6.0 release (coming in a few weeks)

They're not bad models for use as Interceptors although I'll probably have to change the description which currently says they are specialist trident guard (and these guys do not look like Trident Guard !)

I'm going to order a couple and see what they look life in real life, so to speak.

I'm actually planning on changing their profile in Nautican Army draft 5.0 but that's another story. Whatever I do with them, they will definitely retain a place in the army because I've purchased them now and I'm the only person collecting Nautican army models at the moment :)

you can find Kithix minis on HydraMiniatures.com :-

shop.hydraminiatures.com/index.php?cPath=3

The lowdown

Lobstrosities are 28mm scale miniatures

The below dimensions are variable according to how you decide to position the arms (pincers) so I have given the maximum and minimum stats for the 6 models I put together.

Height 4.6 - 6.0cm (excluding base)
Width 3.9 - 6.8cm
Length 3.8 - 4.7cm

Base Size 40mm x 40mm

Assembly
----------------
Not easy !

The model come in 8 parts,

- the main body and legs
- 4 arms (or pincers !)
- a head
- a 2 piece jaw

The jaw is a cinch to fit into the head, no problem. Fitting the head into the main body is a bit tougher. It's a ball and socket affair, the socket is large which is good because you can vary the heads position (up, down, left, right, slanted etc) but you either need to pin the head into place or use epoxy resign to "glue" it in place (I don't think super glue will do the job, the socket is too large).

I also had to use epoxy resign for the arms (pincers) and they were a pain to stick into place. I left the epoxy resign on the "balls" of the arms and the sockets they were to fit into until it was almost dry. I then had to force the arms into place and use various things to balance the arms on (like pens, a vice, screw driver, match boxes etc) and hold them in a position I was happy with.

Other Notes
------------------
These miniatures are very well designed and they look great. Best of all the arms and head can be placed in loads of different positions to get give each model a very individual look (check out the below slide show).

These are NOT easy to assemble plastic miniatures. The whole assembly operation was quite tricky and fiddly and took, in total (excluding time waiting for the epoxy resign to dry), about an hour and a half.

I think you might also need some filler (eg. green stuff) to bridge the gap between the head and the body (and maybe the arm sockets). It's not strictly necessary but I will probably use some because the "neck gap" looks a little large on a couple of the models I put together (due to the position of the head).

PS. You don't get plastic 40mm bases with the models so you'll need to provide your own.
Firstly, I thought I'd better let you know that I haven't forgotten or abandoned my Nautican project. I'm afraid that real-life took over for a while but my Warhammering ways are fighting back and I should now have more free time to get back to the real business of enjoying myself :)

Secondly, I had a 3,000pt battle about 3 weeks ago against my regular opponent who once again brought his horrible furry critters with him.

In a nutshell, he gave me a very good and thorough kicking ! I've tried to analyze what happened and if I did anything seriously wrong or he did anything seriously right.

I think my opponent summed it up nicely. I simply took the wrong army against his hordes of rats. His army totally overwhelmed the Nauticans who were few in number. I was fighting on all fronts and against multiple units. It was just too much for my fishy lads :(

I did make a couple of silly mistakes, I misjudged how far his Doomwheels were likely to move and he routed my Stingrays, which were about t take out some jezzails and he also managed to get a Doomwheel "charge" into another unit which wreaked havoc on my plans.

The Nauticans did bravely dispatch numerous Skaven units but they were mainly slaves and at the end only the King of the Seas, some Weresharks and a very depleted Trident Guard unit remained.

My opponent on the other hand chose his army very wisely and didn't make any mistakes, as far as I could tell. Boooo ! Every commander should be forced to make a mistake or forget something important during the course of a fantasy battle :D

Anyway, I'll be back with some Nautican updates soon. I'm ordering some more units and have quite a few tweaks to make to the army list. I still haven't got anywhere with the painting but at least I now have the time to try.

Joel, if you're reading this, I'm sure you must have cheated to beat my noble and proud Nauticans because that's simply the Skaven way. The only problem is, I haven't worked out how ! ;)
Thanks for continuing to follow the project guys,
Weresharks are 28mm scale miniatures

Height 6.4cm (including GW 40mm base)
Width 4.7cm (including tail)
Length 4.6cm (including tail)
Base Size 40mm x 40mm

Assembly
------------
Another easy to assemble miniature (like the Octobipods but unlike the Giant Crabs - which were tough)

The model comes in 3 parts, the main body, the left arm (the right arm is already molded in place) and the tail which begins from the body (not just the tip eg. the tail fin).

Both arm and tail fit into large indentations in the main model and are very easy to stick into place with super glue. I was able to position the arm in different positions to give the models a slightly different look. With one model I actually raised the arm to make it look like the Wereshark was either gesturing to the enemy (eg. "come on then !") or waving his comrades forward.

The tails probably naturally lie on the ground behind the Wereshark but I was able to raise them slightly to make sure I could line up several Weresharks in side-by-side base to base contact. This wasn't a problem and the tails actually look perfectly natural in this position which was a relief.

Other Notes
--------------
The model comes with a molded base, you need to get your own 40mm base. The molded base was totally flat underneath and I easily stuck it to the 40mm GW plastic base.

These models are of an excellent quality in both molding and design. They're probably the best looking models in the Nautican Army, alongside the Komodons (which I'm using as Trident Guard and Wave Breakers - which are soon going to become 25mm models in the army list).

It's nice to get some solid metal in the army. Overall, I actually prefer plastic because it's so easy to put together but these guys were no trouble and they have a really nice weighty feel to them - which befits a real killer unit !

BTW, if you were wondering... the Wereshark is holding an octopus in it's right hand, a small snack to keep it nourished on the surface world. It's really not that"into" beef, lamb or pork ;)Sigmarhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11642441201859816835noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14627756101109563.post-49869130610058318142010-03-26T14:57:00.000-07:002010-03-26T15:02:33.558-07:00"The Octopus Men are here" - it's no use swimming so... run !!!!!
I've finally assembled my Octobipods and some other miniatures but the walking Ocotpus men come first (so to speak !)

Height 6.2cm (including GW 40mm base)
Width 5.2cm (due to head tentacles)
Length 6.4cm (due to head tentacles)
Base Size 40mm x 40mm

Assembly
------------
I found the miniature very easy to assemble (unlike the crabs !) The miniature comes in 2 parts; a head which has 8 molded tentacles and a separate body. There is a nice sized recess in the bottom of the head which sticks firmly to the "lump" (neck) on the body. I just used super glue and the models seem quite firmly stuck ! :D

The tentacles extend about 6.4cm from the back of the base to the front and about 5.2cm from left to right (ie width).

The length is not too much of a problem because the miniature is higher than most enemy rank and file so you can push the Octobipod up into base contact and the tentacles extend over the top of a lot of enemy models (at least they do with Skaven and units without long vertical pointy weapons !.)

I thought the width might be a problem because I thought it might be difficult to assemble a unit of models without their tentacles getting in each others way.

As it turned out a little forethought prevented any trouble at all. I angled the heads slightly to one side so that the tentacles go either slighty above or below their "neighbours" tentacles (click the image above for a close up). The models' tentacles even rested on one another while they dried so I didn't even need to prop them up - beautiful ;)

Other Notes
--------------
The model comes with a molded base, you need to get your own 40mm base. The molded base was very flat underneath and I easily stuck it to the 40mm plastic base.

Easy, I like these models !

Dimensions
------------
This is a 28mm scale miniature

Height 2.7cm
Width 5cm
Length 6cm
Base Size 50mm x 50mm

Assembly
------------
I found the miniature quite difficult to assemble (although I haven't had much practice recently !) The shell comes in 2 parts and was easy to stick together, as were the pincers. The legs were more difficult, there are 6 main legs and 2 legs at the back which are slightly thicker but shorter.

There are small indentations in the sides of the crab shell so you know where to position the limbs. I assembled the miniature upside down with the crab shell resting on my worktop. The legs would not stay in place with super glue so I used epoxy resign instead which dried rock hard overnight and appears to have done the job nicely.

After the glue had dried I was pleasantly surprised to find that all 6 main legs actually touched the ground. The 2 legs at the back do not quite touch the ground unless you lean the crab backwards slightly which creates quite a nice pose of the crab launching an attack.

Other Notes
--------------
This crab is an undead crab called "Scuttlebones" so it comes with 2 holes in it's shell (with a corpse inside !). I will be filling the holes with putty to create a complete shell.
Some of the Nauticans with sturdier "land legs" are taking the Channel Tunnel from mainland Europe :)
Happy Christmas to me !

PS. On my shopping journey to the underwater world of miniatures, I discovered this Aqualops (pic on right) ! It is definitely finding it's way into the army somewhere !

I have been struggling to find some suitable miniatures for the Tide Watchers so I might drop them and make a new suitably weak but tactically interesting core unit out of the Aqualops and these other freakish weed like creatures from hydraminiatures.com (see below).

At the moment I'm thinking of a very short range "artillery" (in the weakest sense of the word) unit. The weeds can pull up the rocks and the Aqualops can throw them !

It's probably going to happen because I'm the only one collecting the army and I've just ordered some of the miniatures.

There's no room in special or rare units, I like the composition of those sections at the moment and, in any case, we don't need another powerful unit. So I'm going to pop them in core, make them very limited in power and restrict their use in some way. Or at least that's my current thinking. I might drop the artillery thing and make them close combat with a stand and shoot reaction with the rock, I'm not sure yet. Let me know if you have any ideas.

Here are the surrounding weedlings I'm thinking of including with the Aqualops (I might have to change the name in case it's copyrighted - I'll ask hydraminiatures for permission).

These guys might end up being called Seaweedlings ;)

"Aqualops" and "Vardu Sprouts" miniatures from http://www.hydraminiatures.com (used with permission)

Sigmarhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11642441201859816835noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14627756101109563.post-20829975768375371442009-11-27T02:00:00.000-08:002009-11-27T09:00:27.163-08:00Planned Nautican Fantasy Battle Army updates
Ok folks, here's the plan for my Sea Borne Warhammer Fantasy Army.
Characters
- Zhurf to be removed

Core Units
- Wave Breakers get +1 strength

Special Units
- Deep Divers to be removed
- Weresharks frenzy reduced in strength and slightly reduced in points
- Tripoon* loses "Creatures of the Deep" rule (ie. no regeneration 5+ save).

* The Wave Breaker crew are actually Creatures of the Shores but will not benefit from this rule because they operate a war machine and I don't think advanced deployment is appropriate for a Tripoon

Rare Units
- Fortunis added

Magic Items
- Many tweaks to powers and points. The aim being to make them more selectable.
- Reduction in number of bound items and / or making them "one use only" items
- Notably a significant change to the Tsunami Wave banner and Millenial Fathom. I want to make the Tsunami more selectable and the Millenial Fathom less so. The Fathom banner has become almost a default selection in recent battles, making a good fighting unit such as Trident Guard unbreakable can be, for want of a better word, almost priceless.

Aqua Lore
Very small tweaks, otherwise no changes for this draft *

* I actually plan to revamp the whole Nautican magic system. I have a lot of ideas but they need more thought and testing.

Army Wide Rules
- small change to Chanty Singer's Sea Storm.
- possible tweak to Creatures of the Sea rules

Army Wide Equipment
- no changes planned.

Army list blog presentation
- I will be tidying up the army list as a whole and maybe making some rules and descriptions a little less verbose. I'll also work on making the site pages more printable - note that this should be less of an issue when the pdf is completed and the army site is only needed for reference when you don't have the list at hand.

- I will try to make the site more navigable with links and a site only search box so there's less scrolling and it's easier to jump between rules and to find what you're looking for.

- A summary reference sheet will be added with all profiles and points costs.

- One final thing, I'll also be searching for more miniatures and suppliers which I'll publish on the Miniatures page.

Those are all of the changes I can think of right now. Note that I will not be doing any work on the fluff. I just want to get the list and pdf ready for potential play-testers. Background fluff will follow in the next major draft up.

Thanks for following the project folks, Sigmar.
Sigmarhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11642441201859816835noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14627756101109563.post-50773094358814686042009-11-25T12:03:00.000-08:002009-11-25T12:11:09.268-08:00A Nautican Sprat hero ! Their usefulness has been somewhat superseded since the coral hunters arrived on the scene.

There is however one tactical advantage that I think Deep Divers brought to the army that needs to be retained - the ability to skirmish.

Most armies have some form of skirmishers, fast cavalry and / or flyers; many armies are strong in all three 'disciplines'.. The Nauticans are pretty weak off of these areas so I don't think that totally losing the ability to skirmish is an option.

So, I'm introducing a very low level sprat character with suitably 'wimpy' sprat profile to act as a sprat leader with the option of turning a unit of coral hunters or possibly even javelin wielding crest riders into skirmishers.

I'm making the points cost of Nautican skirmishing quite high because I woulld not expect a sea based army to be naturally skilled in land based skirmishing. Besides, the army is not meant to be an ambush / guerilla type of force.

The character will have the option to take some low level magic items that I will probably limit to the seeds of maze weed and limpet mix. Both are low level magic items costing 25 pts. I'm hoping that the relative weakness of the sprat unit and magic item limit will test the tactical prowess of even the most battle astute of Nautican commannders.

Check out the army list update in the next couple of days.

Thanks for reading folks, Sigmar
Sigmarhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11642441201859816835noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14627756101109563.post-30696650295771528062009-11-24T02:45:00.000-08:002009-11-24T13:16:52.249-08:00No Nautican Tsunami but the Ocean taps are being turned on !
My Nautican fantasy plans to race to the finishing line with a final last surge in army book updates has been thwarted by the lack of free Warhammer weekends recently.

So, rather than trying to find a free weekend to complete the latest draft I am going to drip feed the army updates as and when I get time.

I have a lot of tweaks, amendments, deletions and new items to add. Most changes relate to the magic items list which I'm attempting to make more selectable. As a result some item points costs and magic item powers have been reduced.

I am also simplifying some items and making some additions and withdrawing some items and units.

I'm still planning to overhaul the way Nauticans use magic but this might have to wait for a future draft because I plan to turn this latest draft into a pdf in time for Christmas.

Thanks for your patience,
Sigmar
PS. The image of the Nauticans battling an incursion of Chaos was drawn by Gareth Pannan who has created nearly all of the artwork for the Nautican Army.
